A new procedure for the rapid determination of ethylene glycol in aqueous matrices has been developed. It is based on derivatization with hexyl chloroformate directly in the aqueous sample and detection by gas-chromatography / positive ion chemical ionisation mass spectrometry. The detection limit in tap water is below 0.1 mg L-1. Direct analysis of ethylene glycol in more complex aqueous matrices, like white wine, is also demonstrated.

Abstract
A new procedure for the rapid determination of ethylene glycol in aqueous matrices has been developed. It is based on derivatization with hexyl chloroformate directly in the aqueous sample and detection by gas-chromatography / positive ion chemical ionisation mass spectrometry. The detection limit in tap water is below 0.1 mg L-1. Direct analysis of ethylene glycol in more complex aqueous matrices, like white wine, is also demonstrated.File in questo prodotto:
