The adsorption of CO at room temperature on cobalt particles supported on MgO leads mainly to the formation of linearly adsorbed species. The detection of carbonate-like groups located on the matrix indicates that a disproportionation reaction is already starting at room temperature. Heating to T > 300 K in vacuo causes the full development of the CO disproportionation (2COads→ Cads +CO2ads),with the carbon forming a surface cobalt carbide and the CO2 being fixed on the basic matrix which in turn is acting as a promoter of the CO disproportionation. The chemisorbed carbon is carrying a partial negative charge

Abstract
The adsorption of CO at room temperature on cobalt particles supported on MgO leads mainly to the formation of linearly adsorbed species. The detection of carbonate-like groups located on the matrix indicates that a disproportionation reaction is already starting at room temperature. Heating to T > 300 K in vacuo causes the full development of the CO disproportionation (2COads→ Cads +CO2ads),with the carbon forming a surface cobalt carbide and the CO2 being fixed on the basic matrix which in turn is acting as a promoter of the CO disproportionation. The chemisorbed carbon is carrying a partial negative chargeFile in questo prodotto:
