The comic, unlike what happens with tragic works or scary fictional works, apparently presents no issues concerning the paradox of fiction. We laugh, and that’s it. No one would ever think of asking us “why are you laughing?” or“are you laughing for real?”. Unlike other emotions (like sadness and fear),in fact, laughter does not seem to establish any paradox relatively to the fictional stories we call jokes, although they clearly are not real events or objects. But if we really laugh for something we know is fake, then it is not true that, in order to feel emotions toward an object, we must believe in its existence. Thus the paradox vanishes.

Can we solve the paradox of fiction by laughing at it?
