The Project is the result of the cooperation between the Pharmacy Faculty of Turin and local Pharmacists. This volunteering Project concerns the implementation of galenic laboratories in hospitals located in Developing Countries (D.C.). Three are the main reasons to propose galenics: low cost, simple operative procedures and “tailor made medicine" suitable to actual demand of local people. The Project complies both with the Italian and guest Countries laws, always saving the quality of medical products. The pharmaceutical forms proposed are liquid preparations, capsules and ointments. Six are the phases of this Project: • The first one implies the choice of drugs and useful pharmaceutical forms. • The second one implies a stage at pharmacy’s laboratory for a student of the Pharmacy Faculty of Turin; the stage permit to learn how to prepare the medicinal products. • The third one concerns in a stage at pharmacy’s laboratory for the local people chosen by the medical centre of the D.C.. During this period material useful for galenic laboratory will be sent. • The fourth one consists of a training period at galenic laboratory of the chosen D.C., during which the local technician, who has been in Italy to learn, will be coordinated by the Pharmacy’s student in his work. • The fifth one concerns in quality and assurance control of medicinal products routinely prepared in new galenic laboratory; the check will be carried out by University of Turin. • The last one concerns in periodical stages at new laboratory for Pharmacy’s student. Several Projects are going on, at different state of progress: • “Centre Médico-Chirurgical Maternité la Bethanie” Douala, Cameroon – Phase 6 • Hospital “Notre Dame des Apòtres”, Garoua, Cameroon – Phase 6 • Healt Center “Le Bon Samaritain”, N’djamena sud, Tchad – Phase 6 • Hospital “Heintsoa”, Vohipeno, Madagascar – Phase 6 • Dispensario Diocesano, Ihosy, Madagascar – Phase 6 • Hospital “Nossa Senhora de Paz”, Cubal, Angola – Phase 5 • A.M.E.N. Onlus center, Funda, Angola – Phase 5 • Hospital “Saint Damien”, Tabarre, Haiti – Phase 5 Each lab so far has reached a different state of evolution. All of them are growing day by day, helped by the constant support of all team A.P.P.A.®, whose purpose is the one of making them indipendent from both knowledges in handling galenics and economy in order to buy new raw materials using the gain of medicines sale.
