This essay focuses on Cebrion, the homeric hero who appears in Iliad as Hector’s brother and charioteer, but his role is not restricted to this function. The poet makes use of the charioteer’s role in order to create a complex character: Cebrion is an efficient ‘assistant’, a kind of alter ego of Hector during his duel with Patroclus and may suggest possibly a connection between Troy and the neighbouring region the hero came from. This narrative function is confirmed by the vasal production of the 6th century.
