Borrowing from the scholar Ingrid Monson the idea of perceptual agency, the present essay explores the verses of the Russian contemporary poet Elizaveta Mnatsakanova, whose work opens the boundaries between poetry and music and poetry and visual art. The article mainly focuses on the interrelationship between the cool landscape sketches created by words, which decompose into syllables before our eyes, and the bits of repeated sounds of her poetry. The use of formal structures from musical composition is viewed as a significant element of Mnatsakanova’s work, especially in her most common theme, the death, which resonates across her most famous poems, such as A Guest at Death’s and Requiem.
