The first two chapters deal with some pseudepigrapha that enjoyed a wide circulation in the 15th and 16th centuries, inside and outside the schools: a corpus of four orations purported to be translations from Greek originals by Aeschines, Demades and Demosthenes; and a letter of Vergil to Maecenas. Chapter 3 and 4 offer an edition and analysis of documents pertaining to the courses on Homer’s Odyssey by Angelo Poliziano (Florence, 1489 ca.) and Basil Chalcondyles (Rome, 1513 ca.).

Abstract

The first two chapters deal with some pseudepigrapha that enjoyed a wide circulation in the 15th and 16th centuries, inside and outside the schools: a corpus of four orations purported to be translations from Greek originals by Aeschines, Demades and Demosthenes; and a letter of Vergil to Maecenas. Chapter 3 and 4 offer an edition and analysis of documents pertaining to the courses on Homer’s Odyssey by Angelo Poliziano (Florence, 1489 ca.) and Basil Chalcondyles (Rome, 1513 ca.).
