This article focuses on an unpublished version of a beneficial tale by Paul, Bishop of Monembasia (10th century), transmitted by MS München, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, graecus 631. This text, of which an edition with translation is offered here, is a rewriting in vulgar Greek of the original tale. Probably composed in the late 16th or early 17th century, it was possibly meant to address an audience of (both religious and) laypeople; the anonymous redactor appended to the text a very short sermon on the value of confession.
