This article illustrates some significant aspects of the scientific and human relation established between the illustrious Romanian linguist Sextil Pușcariu, founder of the Muzeul Limbii Române, and the Italian colleague Matteo Bartoli. The privileged topics of this scientific exchange, i.e. Istro-Romanian language, linguistic geography and linguistic atlases, are presented taking inspiration from two unpublished letters by Sextil Pușcariu to Matteo Bartoli found in the Bartoli Fund of the University of Turin.

Abstract
