During MAP experiment a microbarometric network was deployed in the Piedmont region in order to outline the presence of gravity waves. An episode during which a mesoscale wave influenced the precipitation was detected during IOP8, in the morning of 21 October 1999. The wave had a period of about one hour and a wavelength of about 100 km. The episode took place at the end of a period characterized by synoptic conditions suggested in the literature as favorable to the generation of this kind of waves. Wind profilers data showed the coincidence of the maximum of the wave activity with the presence of the troposperic jet stream above the site. The results of a linear stability analysis based on wind profilers and radiosoundings data are presented. They indicate that, in this episode, the atmosphere could support a gravity wave according to the observation.

A Mesoscale Gravity Wave Event during MAP : a Possible Source
