The aim of this research is to value the effectiveness of the abortive treatment with cloprostenol and cabergoline, using different confirming exams in the bitches. After ultrasonographic pregnancy diagnosis executed during the 3rd week after an unwanted mating, 70 bitches of varied breed were submitted to the same abortive protocol. The bitches were divided in 3 groups depending on the different method used to confirm the abortive protocol value. Serum progesterone concentrations were assessed and compared with ultrasound appearance during the drug administrations and 2 weeks later the last ones in order to verify the better effectiveness of the treatment. The pattern of the progesterone levels shows that values incompatible with pregnancy appear earlier than ultrasonographic signs of foetal death.
