Aim. This study describes and evaluates the efficiency of a particular model of stem used in total hip arthroplasty (Pegasus, DePuy, Warsaw, USA). The analyzed version is the last evolution of the component. Methods. On a total of 127 components implanted between 1994 and 2002, 52 underwent clinical and radiological evaluation; the Harris Hip Score and the radiological score of Engh were evaluated. Results. None of the implanted components, had to be substituted for aseptic loosening, giving a survival rate of 100%. Good results have been observed, both from the clinical and radiological point of view, leading to a general satisfaction of the patients. Conclusion. According to the results obtained, and with the limits of this kind of studies, the conclusion is drawn that the Pegasus stem shows an efficiency equal to other last generation uncemented stems.
