Since a long time hydrogen plays a primary role in many industrial processes while its interest, in energetic field, dates back to the first oil crisis. After a certain decline in recent years it has been considered again, with reference both to environmental emergency than to economic dynamics of the sector. In the future hydrogen could represent the basis for an energetic system independent from conventional sources, even if nowadays the greater part derives from fossil sources. The actual difficulties for key technologies, correlated with production, storage, distribution and use of hydrogen, have moreover not to be underevaluated, also if one have to consider a productive efficiency improvement and a slow costs reduction for its obtaining from renewable sources, to the aim of reaching the realization of a system completely based on the life cycle of hydrogen itself. Of great interest, with regard to the uses, is the electrical generation distributed on the territory, that could reduce the electromagnetic pollution besides electrical losses, and an other promising possibility is its utilization in the automotive sector.
