A 10-year-old standardbred mare showed apathy, water and food rejection, staggering and alteration of biochemical haematologic profile. The blood smear showed Heinz Body. The horse received 100 g of dehydrated garlic for 10 days and the diagnosis was garlic intoxication. The toxic effect was probably correlated with allicin, and its sulfur metabolites. These molecules ingested in large quantities or by chronic supply become toxic and produce a characteristic symptomatology.
