L’Irlande de Beaumont entre histoire et politique françaises

It is a very well known fact in the history of intellectual ideas that XIX France developed a kind of an English myth, a long lasting admiration for the political constitution of England. It is, however, much less known that under the July monarchy the most significant figures belonging to French liberalism different streams looked, almost paradoxically, to Ireland with the same interest. In fact Ireland occupied a very particular position within the British empire due to the peculiarity of its political and religious history. On this respect, Gustave de Beaumont’s work is a very significat example of this neglected chapter of the history of ideas.
