This paper analyze the central components of the different social representations of the solidarity. The individual's impossibility of acting scatteredly or of its interest for to carry out forms of collaboration with the other ones base the solidarity. That is to say, the solidarity should not made a mistake with altruism or generosity. Is realized an empirical study with university students. The results show that the conception of the society and he ownership to the groups that they receive social help and its positive valuation and/or negative determine the conception of the solidarity. The active solidarity in front of natural, causation of left and of right, and Sarpellon’s interpretation in 1994 about the crisis of solidarity and the idea of a horizontal solidarity and another vertical solidarity are central concepts that help to understand the solidarity, beyond its common meaning.
