Within what is generally described in scientific literature as the central complex, which is in fact located in a position almost juxtaposed to the citadel’s enceinte, the italian excavations (2000-2006) revealed a large Parthian building of about 40 metres on each side, opening on the large central court of the citadel. The new building was named “Red Building” because of its purple-red plastered walls : this seems to be here a highly significant feature as it was used not only on the northern and southern façades, but also in four internal rooms and in some of them as floor delicate treatment. As far as planning is concered, the Red Building has a square plan which conforms to a well-established Iranian tradition.

Abstract
Within what is generally described in scientific literature as the central complex, which is in fact located in a position almost juxtaposed to the citadel’s enceinte, the italian excavations (2000-2006) revealed a large Parthian building of about 40 metres on each side, opening on the large central court of the citadel. The new building was named “Red Building” because of its purple-red plastered walls : this seems to be here a highly significant feature as it was used not only on the northern and southern façades, but also in four internal rooms and in some of them as floor delicate treatment. As far as planning is concered, the Red Building has a square plan which conforms to a well-established Iranian tradition.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
