Abstract

Some 10 years after the introduction of safety-oriented regulations aimed at the workplace (Bill 626/94), data on work-related accidents point to a reduction in the number of events reported: Italy is half the way up the list but is yet far from member states where safety is considered to be a foundation of the organizational and social culture. What the Bill fails to address is the need to include psychology in training courses, as suggested by the European directive. To highlight the potential contribution of this discipline, given hereunder are the major results of a survey conducted in a provincial environment representing a good example of the national economic context. Through interviews involving instructors, experts and company safety managers, the items of context were defined, promoting the acquisition and implementation of relational competences which bias individual and group behaviour toward safety.
