A set of eight MWPCs was designed for PINOT, a two-arm neutral meson spectrometer designed to perform nuclear physics experiments in the intermediate energy range. These MWPCs have an active surface of (329×576) mm2 and both anode and cathode wire read-out is performed. A series of tests on some prototype and the behaviour of the chambers used in the spectrometer are described. With the prototype, built to optimize the design of the final MWPCs, we obtained a resolution in the charge read-out on the cathode planes varying from 110 μm to 750 μm, depending on the mechanical parameters (anode-cathode gap and cathode strip width). The definitive chambers built for the spectrometer with 7 mm anode-cathode gap and 7 mm cathode strip width have a resolution of 500 μm which is well under the limit of 1 mm requested by the Monte Carlo simulation.
