A number of topics in deep inelastic scattering on nucleons and nuclei is reviewed. An update of the experimental results on ratios of nuclear structure functions is presented together with a brief discussion of theoretical models. The inelastic J/psi virtual photoproduction data are used to study the influence of the nuclear medium on the gluon momentum distribution, while the quasielastic data are analysed in the light of the ideas of Colour Transparency.

Abstract
