The interaction of C5H6 (cyclopentadiene) with the surface of totally dehydrated high surface area MgO is dissociative, with formation of hydroxyl groups and negatively charged (resonance stabilized) C5H5- species (Cp-) whose IR spectrum closely resembles that of K+Cp- and Mg2+Cp)-2. On interaction of Cp- with H2 at 473 K, the formation of surface hydrides and cyclopentane is observed.

Abstract
The interaction of C5H6 (cyclopentadiene) with the surface of totally dehydrated high surface area MgO is dissociative, with formation of hydroxyl groups and negatively charged (resonance stabilized) C5H5- species (Cp-) whose IR spectrum closely resembles that of K+Cp- and Mg2+Cp)-2. On interaction of Cp- with H2 at 473 K, the formation of surface hydrides and cyclopentane is observed.File in questo prodotto:
