Fe(II) ions emerging at the surface of MgO-FeO solid solutions bind oxygen in a molecular form with formation of end-on and μ-dioxygen complexes having a superoxo structure. The O-O stretching frequency of these adducts is very similar to that of the homogeneous Fe(II) oxygen carriers.

Abstract
Fe(II) ions emerging at the surface of MgO-FeO solid solutions bind oxygen in a molecular form with formation of end-on and μ-dioxygen complexes having a superoxo structure. The O-O stretching frequency of these adducts is very similar to that of the homogeneous Fe(II) oxygen carriers.
