A case of PVC pneumoconiosis is described in a man who worked for many years as a dust mixer. The diagnosis was made on the basis of the histologic findings of a transbronchial biopsy, which revealed interstitial fibrosis with lymphoid cell, histiocyte and polynucleated giant cell infiltrates. The differential diagnosis of the case is discussed. The concomitant finding of liver aspecific portal fibrosis is of dubious interpretation since the patient had been exposed to several hepatotoxic substances (occupational and non-occupational) and traces of vinyl chloride could also have been present in the working environment.
