In this essay, I discuss the political notion of individual in the philosophies of Nishida Kitaro and Tanabe Hajime, providing a comprehensive outlook to its relationship with the notion of the state. Given the ambiguity of the two philosophers' political ideas, quite close to nationalism, this essay identifies some of the possible philosophical structural causes for such a pitfall.
