The “crisis of representation” is a recurring leitmotif of both scientific and political debate. The aim of this paper is to analyse contemporary arguments against consolidated forms and instruments of democratic representation, by paying particular attention to (1) governability’s related arguments in criticizing proportional representation and (2) governance theory reframing of the mandate-independence controversy.
