The miniposterior approach is a modification of a standard posterolateral approach, with a smaller skin incision (<10 cm) and less deep tissue dissection. The gluteus maximus tendon is not released and the quadratus femoris muscle is minimally violated. Specialized retractors are needed to obtain good visualization of the landmarks and structures during the procedure. The complete visualization of the acetabulum and the femur are key to obtaining a well-positioned implant. The exposure, bone preparation, and wound closure of the mini-incision posterior approach total hip arthroplasty is presented. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
