This paper describes the methodology adopted to classify simultaneous interpreter-mediated international conferences with the objective to create an electronic corpus. Based on a variety of disciplines such as the Ethnography of Communication, Linguistic Anthropology, Sociolinguistics, Conversation Analysis and Discourse Analysis, the resulting taxonomy of conference sessions, speech events and participants can be used to carry out research on interpreting within and beyond the corpus-based approach.

Abstract
