By contacting the MgO surface with Mg vapours at 853–873 K, a deep-blue-violet sample is formed which is characterized by an intense absorption at 18500 cm−1 (2.3 eV) (as detected by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy) and by two partially overlapped ESR signals. These spectroscopic manifestations are assigned to Fs+ and Fns+ aggregated surface centres. These defective surface centres are very reactive towards simple molecules.

Abstract
By contacting the MgO surface with Mg vapours at 853–873 K, a deep-blue-violet sample is formed which is characterized by an intense absorption at 18500 cm−1 (2.3 eV) (as detected by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy) and by two partially overlapped ESR signals. These spectroscopic manifestations are assigned to Fs+ and Fns+ aggregated surface centres. These defective surface centres are very reactive towards simple molecules.File in questo prodotto:
