Pastoralismo tra azione e conoscenza. Il progetto ProPast in Piemonte

Pastoralism in Piedmont: between knowledge and action - The paper illustrates the case of the ProPast project. It includes a set of actions in support of the pastoral systems of the Cuneo and Turin provinces facing the challenge of wolf predation. The project is a case study of application to rangeland studies of the research-action approach. This approach is justified in the light of the social weakness of the social actor involved in comparison with a widespread support in favour of wolves reintroduction. Data on predation are provided as well as results of the qualitative analyzes aimed at identifying the many issues of the economic and socio-psychological constraints on rangeland systems. In order to promote a better public attitude towards pastoralism, communication actions were undertaken and some results are provided.
