By giving an account of the official visit paid by Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in Italy (october 2010), the paper outlines the current status of China-Italy bilateral relations. While the recent past is studded with lost opportunities, nowadays the two countries seems to be in tune again. Italy is urged to move away from the short-minded and inconsistent vision adopted in the past, to embrace pragmatism and coherence necessary to carry out the good will expressed in the bilateral agreements that were just signed. Today China is an economic power, able to delineate the future of the international community through its own political and monetary strategies. Only by overcoming the eternal contradictions between risk and opportunity and adopting a long-sighed, systematic, European-centred policy will Italy be able to put into action its strategic partnership with PRC.

Abstract
By giving an account of the official visit paid by Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in Italy (october 2010), the paper outlines the current status of China-Italy bilateral relations. While the recent past is studded with lost opportunities, nowadays the two countries seems to be in tune again. Italy is urged to move away from the short-minded and inconsistent vision adopted in the past, to embrace pragmatism and coherence necessary to carry out the good will expressed in the bilateral agreements that were just signed. Today China is an economic power, able to delineate the future of the international community through its own political and monetary strategies. Only by overcoming the eternal contradictions between risk and opportunity and adopting a long-sighed, systematic, European-centred policy will Italy be able to put into action its strategic partnership with PRC.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
