Radical innovations were introduced in drama in the 1920ies: scenography, contents, dramatic structures were deeply transformed to satisfy the needs and spirit of the modern age. Jean-Jacques Bernard's plays provide the audience with interesing examples of how the themes of solitude, insatisfaction towards the 'bourgeois' society and individualism can be developed and discussed through innovative expressive ways. So in his theatrical production silence becomes eloquent to emphasise words, to cope with the limit of words and to devote more space to gestures and postures, so as to recover a really 'dramatic' drama, where words are nolonger the only communicative instrument.

Abstract
Radical innovations were introduced in drama in the 1920ies: scenography, contents, dramatic structures were deeply transformed to satisfy the needs and spirit of the modern age. Jean-Jacques Bernard's plays provide the audience with interesing examples of how the themes of solitude, insatisfaction towards the 'bourgeois' society and individualism can be developed and discussed through innovative expressive ways. So in his theatrical production silence becomes eloquent to emphasise words, to cope with the limit of words and to devote more space to gestures and postures, so as to recover a really 'dramatic' drama, where words are nolonger the only communicative instrument.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
