Schelling's Naturphilosophie does not appeare as a natural philosophy, designed to apply a philosophical meaning to the results of natural sciences, nor as the materialistic attempt to reduce the spiritual sphere to the natural one. It rather represents that line of continuity along which his whole philosophical journey develops in its various phases. According to this assumption, which I argue and explain in the first two parts of the writing, in the last section of the essay I deal with the possible relationship between Naturphilosophie and his positive philosophy, considering directly the first steps of his Darstellung des Naturprocesses (1844).

Abstract

Schelling's Naturphilosophie does not appeare as a natural philosophy, designed to apply a philosophical meaning to the results of natural sciences, nor as the materialistic attempt to reduce the spiritual sphere to the natural one. It rather represents that line of continuity along which his whole philosophical journey develops in its various phases. According to this assumption, which I argue and explain in the first two parts of the writing, in the last section of the essay I deal with the possible relationship between Naturphilosophie and his positive philosophy, considering directly the first steps of his Darstellung des Naturprocesses (1844).
