Esperienze e sviluppi dei registri e sorveglianze in Italia: un progetto ad hoc.

This report on registries and surveillance in public health is divided into two volumes: General aspects (Pt. 1) and Current situation and perspectives (Pt. 2). The National Prevention Plan 2010-2012 (PNP) states that choice and development of prevention actions must be based on appropriate knowledge of health problems and contemplates a specific Central Action (AC) about it. The Turin University, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and Agenas were in charge of performing a survey of definitions and approaches used in public health in Italy, in order to evaluate the needs about surveillance and registries and to propose and develop a formal framework for public health. National experts on different topics were consulted for more than twenty nosologic categories, risk factors, and prevention levels. The joint examination of single topics results in the proposal about the AC to be set up. The report results consist of a proposal for the design of a national architecture to develop surveillance and notification capacities for public heath prevention use in Italy.
