For a long time queerness in South Asia remained a neglected field of research: South Asian literatures and cultures have been deeply investigated, but the presence of queer voices was not recognized, or it was interpreted as heterosexual. Today, the queer movement in South Asia is getting more and more organized, rejecting invisibility and conquering new expressive spaces. This essay aims to bring to view – or, as they say in Hindi, give a dars´an of – some queer issues connected to Hinduism that challenge conventional distinctions regarding gender, as well as community and religion.

Abstract
For a long time queerness in South Asia remained a neglected field of research: South Asian literatures and cultures have been deeply investigated, but the presence of queer voices was not recognized, or it was interpreted as heterosexual. Today, the queer movement in South Asia is getting more and more organized, rejecting invisibility and conquering new expressive spaces. This essay aims to bring to view – or, as they say in Hindi, give a dars´an of – some queer issues connected to Hinduism that challenge conventional distinctions regarding gender, as well as community and religion.File in questo prodotto:
