The thesis put forward in this article is that in the current process of the resignification of monasticism, NMCs radicalise the transformations which some – progressively oriented – traditional communities have already undertaken in order to make monastic identity relevant once more, especially in the wake of Vatican II. Nevertheless, the renewal of the traditional monasteries – abandoning the habit, making metaphors of enclosure and fuga mundi, reduction of communal prayer time – is of a conservative nature because it goes in the direction of continuity with the tradition of reference.

Abstract
The thesis put forward in this article is that in the current process of the resignification of monasticism, NMCs radicalise the transformations which some – progressively oriented – traditional communities have already undertaken in order to make monastic identity relevant once more, especially in the wake of Vatican II. Nevertheless, the renewal of the traditional monasteries – abandoning the habit, making metaphors of enclosure and fuga mundi, reduction of communal prayer time – is of a conservative nature because it goes in the direction of continuity with the tradition of reference.File in questo prodotto:
