This essay examines the structure, the languages and the comic situations of some humanistic Comedies written in the milieu of the Pavia Studium generale in the first half of the fifteenth century, with a particular focus on the De falso hypocrita by the humanist and jurist Mercurino Ranzo (1437). These Comedies describe interesting aspects of the urban society and of the student mentality: the authors, especially Mercurino Ranzo, drew often from the urban culture (also from the justice system, as is suggested in this essay) a large part of plots and the languages which are the basis of the comicality of their humanistic Comedies.
