Human endogenous retrovirus (HERVs) constitute approximately 8% of the human genome. Induction of HERV transcription is possible under certain circumstances, and may have a possible role in some pathological conditions. Aim of the present study was to verify whether HERV-W and K activation by EBV might occur also in vivo, during EBV infection, in pediatric liver transplant recipients.

Abstract

Human endogenous retrovirus (HERVs) constitute approximately 8% of the human genome. Induction of HERV transcription is possible under certain circumstances, and may have a possible role in some pathological conditions. Aim of the present study was to verify whether HERV-W and K activation by EBV might occur also in vivo, during EBV infection, in pediatric liver transplant recipients.
