Spirits of places. Sacred natural sites in contemporary Buganda The article analyses the recent changes taking place in two sacred sites of Uganda, where the religious practises addressed to different spiritual presences confront themselves with the new heritage concept promoted by Unesco. As in other Ugandan sacred sites, memory and history are vehiculated by rituals, which continue to be regularly celebrated. But the practices addressed to the spirits often come into conflict with the need of conserving the sites for museum and touristic purposes.
