It is a great honor and a great pleasure for us to introduce this Special Issue on Animal Anatomy of the Annals of Anatomy. It is a great honor because the Annals of Anatomy, established in 1886 by Karl von Bardeleben under the title Anatomischer Anzeiger, have been for more than a century, one of the most famous and widespread journals on morphology, and one of the most prestigious international forums of discussion between anatomists, histologists and embryologists worldwide.
