In this paper Amerio and Roccato (2001)'s Urban Unsafety Scale has been validated according to the Extended Logistic Model (ELM) (Andrich, 1985a, 1985b, 1988). We performed two studies, interviewing 823 subjects (418 men, 405 women), aged between 16 and 31, living in large Northern-Italy towns, from families of different social-economic status. Amerio and Roccato's scale is composed by 21 items and 5 response categories; in order to obtain a valid, reliable and stable unidimensional scale measuring urban insecurity you have to cut 12 items and 2 response categories. So, our Insurb Scale is composed by 9 items and 3 response categories.
