This chapter focuses on the case of Geely. Without any experience of producing cars, Geely broke both industrial (technology, capital, managerial skills) and institutional barriers (government regulation limiting the number of OEMs) to access the automobile industry in the late 1990s. It is an interesting case for illustrating various ways of catching up and eventually becoming an emerging multinational.
