Abstract

The habit of the gowk of laying its eggs in the nest of others birds provides an opportunity, in a passage of Plautus, to move against an old philanderer, who makes a flirt in home of a meretrix, instead of staying with his elderly wife. The present article provides a semiotic analysis of this interesting passage.
