Alpine dairy products: when the cheese valorises the territory - The high quality cheeses represent a strenght of the alpine livestock systems. The link between mountain agro-ecosystems, livestock farming and high quality products provides several ecosystem services. This paper analyses the evolution and the multifunctionality of alpine dairy chains, with particular attention on the perspectives of sustainable development of this sector. The link between grassland, livestock farms and cheeses provides several ecosystem services that need to be valorised both with efficacious marketing strategies and with the development of specific policies aiming at sustaining the mountain livestock farming.
