On 27th October 2017, Cataluña declared independence. Beyond its effectiveness, it is a serious and very dangerous act for the Spanish stability and unity, but also for the Catalan democratic system. The independence declaration is the last step of a long dispute between the Catalan nationalist parties and the central government: a dispute that seemed to start in 2010, after the constitutional decision about the legitimacy of the Catalan Statute reform, but actually has ancient origins. This paper starts with a short introduction about the recent events; then, it focuses on the deep reasons of this national crisis, with particular attention to the issues concerning the linguistic and territorial organization matter.

Abstract
On 27th October 2017, Cataluña declared independence. Beyond its effectiveness, it is a serious and very dangerous act for the Spanish stability and unity, but also for the Catalan democratic system. The independence declaration is the last step of a long dispute between the Catalan nationalist parties and the central government: a dispute that seemed to start in 2010, after the constitutional decision about the legitimacy of the Catalan Statute reform, but actually has ancient origins. This paper starts with a short introduction about the recent events; then, it focuses on the deep reasons of this national crisis, with particular attention to the issues concerning the linguistic and territorial organization matter.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
