This essay will firstly recapitulate the main features of Elias Canetti's struggle against death, seen as the source of a noxious kind of bond between power and survival. Secondly, the aim of this essay will be to highlight the main negative consequences of a possible war against death: namely, the socio-cultural removal of death and the development of immortalist theories and of transhumanism. Thirdly, and lastly, we will try to demonstrate that there cannot be an identity without mortality, namely a life without the presence of death. The very acceptance of death as an integral part of life is what represents an important opportunity to rediscover the value of our existential vulnerability, that must be set against the noxious and inhuman bond between power and survival.

Abstract
This essay will firstly recapitulate the main features of Elias Canetti's struggle against death, seen as the source of a noxious kind of bond between power and survival. Secondly, the aim of this essay will be to highlight the main negative consequences of a possible war against death: namely, the socio-cultural removal of death and the development of immortalist theories and of transhumanism. Thirdly, and lastly, we will try to demonstrate that there cannot be an identity without mortality, namely a life without the presence of death. The very acceptance of death as an integral part of life is what represents an important opportunity to rediscover the value of our existential vulnerability, that must be set against the noxious and inhuman bond between power and survival.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
