The aim of this chapter is to review English-induced lexical borrowing in the Italian language, with special attention to the areas of lexis more intensely affected in the course of time up to the new millennium – from the year 2001 to 2016. The analysis is quantitatively and qualitatively based on the most recent electronic editions of Italian dictionaries, namely the GDU (De Mauro 1999/2007), Lo Zingarelli 2017 (2016) and il Devoto-Oli. Vocabolario della lingua italiana 2017 (2016), which have allowed the extraction of Angli-cisms according to different time spans and usage domains. A chronology of lexical borrowing from English into Italian divided into four main periods: early contacts up to the 18th century, the 19th century, the first half of the 20th century, the post- World War II period and the new millennium years. In the conclusion the periods of more intense contacts between English and Italian and the areas of the Italian vocabulary which have been more markedly affected are summed up.

Abstract
In the conclusion the periods of more intense contacts between English and Italian and the areas of the Italian vocabulary which have been more markedly affected are summed up.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
