In this article we criticise the use of simplistic metaphors such as the “viral” one for the analysis of content–spread online and we propose a brief overview on the importance of the structure of the space in which these textualities move.We focus, in particular, on social networks’ feeds and on how their algorithms shape and direct the semiotic buzz around texts influencing their visibility and, therefore, their spreadability.
