Already popular before the composition of the libellus – as recognized by the same poet and confirmed by some clues such as the presence in the great Canzoniere Vatican 3793 and the the citation in memory in a Bolognese Memorial of 1292 – the song in chosen to inaugurate the «matera nuova e più nobile che la passata» (VN XVII 1).Years later, his role in recognized in De vulgari eloquentia where it is mentioned twicw (DVE II VIII 8 e II XII 3) and above all in the purgatory episode of Bonagiunta Orbicciani (Purg. XXIV 49-51). The proposed continuous reading focuses on some exegetical problems and some philological problems in the light of the edition of Vita Nuova (Rome, Salerno Editrice, 2015) for the NECOD (= New commented edition of Dante’s works).
