The two books of «Medical Puzzles and Natural Problems» falsely attributed to the Aristotelian commentator Alexander of Aphrodisias are a collection of chapters in the form of questions and answers probably dating from the 3rd or 4th century CE. The preface to Book I is of great interest for the history of the genre, for it provides a methodological introduction on the scope and use of problemata and their application to the study of natural phenomena. This paper contains a critical edition of this preface (the first ever), with Italian translation and commentary.
