ABSTRACT. L’opera Cortes de Jupiter fu rappresentata a Lisbona il 4 agosto del 1521, in occasione della partenza per il Ducato di Savoia della figlia terzogenita del re D. Manuel, l’infanta D. Beatriz. Il testo di Gil Vicente è contraddistinto dal recupero degli elementi iconografici del corteo marino, desunti da una tradizione artistica e letteraria che risale all’Antichità classica. Una novità è rappresentata, tuttavia, in tale contesto, dagli accenni rivolti alle terre lontane lambite, in quegli anni, dalle navigazioni portoghesi. ABSTRACT. The play Cortes de Jupiter was performed in Lisbon on August 4, 1521, to mark the departure to the Duchy of Savoy of the third-born daughter of King D. Manuel, the infant D. Beatriz. Gil Vicente's text is characterized by the use of iconographic elements of the sea thiasos, taken form Greek and Roman art and literature. A novelty is represented, however, in this context, by the references to distant lands reached, in those years, by Portuguese navigations.
